FROM THE SHOW: NASHVILLE
Recognizable for his collection of Nudie suits and his tall, blonde pompadour, the Thin Man from West Plains, Missouri was a cast member of the Grand Ole Opry for over 50 years. The singer also hosted the Porter Wagoner Show on television from 1960 to 1979. Known as a pitch man for a number of products, Wagoner recorded hits solo and in duets with Dolly Parton and others. Porter Wagoner had slowed down his career before coming back with a well-received CD in 2007 called Wagonmaster. In honor of half a decade as a member, Wagoner performed once more on the Opry before passing away of lung cancer soon afterwards on October 28, 2007.

GIMME MORE HOPE: RESILIENCE AND IMPROVISATION IN MUSIC, FOOD & DRINK
We're seeking out hope in a cold, dark season with warm conversation and music. We check in on the places in New Orleans that keep us connected, even in these isolating times, from Li'l Dizzy's Cafe in Treme to Pete's Out in the Cold Lounge in the Irish Channel to see how they're faring. Then a round with Joe Krown at the 88s...on wheels, the Piano on a Truck. Plus songs by Bob Dylan, Bessie Smith, Otis Redding, and Dolly Parton.
DOLLY PARTON
Dolly Parton joins us, in this archival interview from 2000, to talk about her musical and family roots in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee, where she first broke into song, performed on the radio, and admired the fashion of the local trollop. There's music from across the American spectrum, including Parton's "Coat of Many Colors." Also, we'll talk with the late historian Charles Wolfe about the ballads and songs of the Appalachian South.

AMERICAN ROUTES 5TH ANNIVERSARY
It's been 5 years since American Routes first hit the airwaves, and we're celebrating! Hour 1 highlights include well-wishes from listeners, anniversary songs, and great conversations over the years with Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, the late Jerry Garcia, Norah Jones, Dolly Parton and Harry Shearer (of The Simpsons). Devoted fans will be amused by a look at our retro selves, and new listeners can hear how this all started! Hour 2 is our 5th Anniversary concert at the House of Blues, with New Orleans greats Irma Thomas, Frogman Henry, Kermit Ruffins and Henry Butler, and special guests Shemekia Copeland and Keb' Mo'.
